Haitian Corner
1988
Synopsis
A poet from Haiti flees to America after being imprisoned in his native country. Recovering from the experience, he begins to examine his past. One day he encounters his former torturer, and becomes obsessed with taking his revenge.
Editorial
A lively eight-piece band transports dancing couples home in Raoul Peck’s tender first feature, set in Brooklyn. Joining the dots of a diasporic community, this poignantly fragmented film about conscience and confrontation suggests that there are no straight lines—nor answers—for political exiles.
