Synopsis
Three ageing businessmen gather in a ceremony to commemorate their friend Miwa, who died a few years ago. When college nostalgia inspires them to match-make for their friend’s widow and her daughter, they have no idea of the strife their careless interference will cause.

In one of his final films, Yasujiro Ozu inverts another of his signature family dramas, the 1949 classic Late Spring. Starring an older Setsuko Hara, Late Autumn once more captures a parting parent and child’s mutual letting-go with all of Ozu’s usual sustained, sensitive attention to character.
