2025
Synopsis
East Village, 1974. At his Second Avenue apartment, photographer Peter Hujar talks with his friend, the writer Linda Rosenkrantz. She tape-records Hujar as he recounts the previous 24 hours, detailing the ins and outs of his work and his interactions with personalities from New York’s art scene.
Editorial
Adapting an intimate transcript from ‘70s New York, where what separated art from life was rarely more than a cigarette’s width, director Ira Sachs finds beauty in conversation. Ben Whishaw is charisma embodied as the titular photographer, each gesture limned with wit, style, and compassion.
