Synopsis

In an alternate Chile, reality does not exist but rather is an ensemble of soap operas. A series of telenovela episodes sees actors—self-aware stars playing archetypal soap figures, including adulterers, femme fatales, and more—in increasingly absurd and fantastical situations.

Despite dying in 2011, Raúl Ruiz continues to make cinematic mischief. This comic and surreal pastiche of telenovelas was made during a fertile workshop Ruiz ran in 1990. Finished and restored by his wife and editor, Valeria Sarmiento, TV melodrama collides Ruiz’s fabulism and the era of Twin Peaks.
